I was always under the impression that subs like this were tethered to a ship/boat. Seen nothing to suggest this was the case here.

If someone could work out the cost per hour for the ride... ... it's probably cheaper than a trip to Alton Towers! I'll stick with Alton Towers. At least you will still be alive after your visit... Its all very odd given how much people are paying to go in it, was expecting something a bit more sophisticated. Using game controllers to control machines is quite common these days apparently. Our armed forces use them for various things such as drones, 4x4s etc. I agree it looks very basic though. Fingers crossed a miracle happens and they survive

CNN: "As there is no tether between the Titan and the support surface ship, the only way to communicate or detect from the surface is through the sea " That answers that then I suppose. Absolutely bonkers. If you cant tether it, it shouldnt be done. 3 minutes ago, Padders said: Isn't it about 3 miles down... There is a 1.4GW electricity cable link between the UK and NORWAY, pretty sure a 3 mile tether between a ship and a submersible isnt beyond human endeavour.

What gets me is, they can put a machine on Mars, track it, and control it.. I'm astounded that they can't locate this sub and retrieve it.. Problem is, if it's sunk to the bottom it's now a piece of debris amongst a large debris field from a sunken ship. or is floating in the water, but not buoyant enough to rise to the surface. Then it drifts away.
