You're assuming that the person is guilty

I actually support the BBC in not publishing this person's name and destroying his life without due process

You blood thirsty vultures will just have to wait

To be fair I agree with you.

Cynical me just thinks the timing of the story might have something to do with the Osbourne wedding e-mail

According to Liz Kershaw on Twitter, the person is being named officially later on today.

Sadly, Liz Kershaw is an ex BBC employee with an axe to grind so this info may or may not be accurate.

Met police: 'no investigation at this time' into presenter after BBC meeting:

Quote

Detectives are assessing information discussed in a virtual meeting with the BBC over allegations a presenter paid a teenager for sexual images but there is no investigation “at this time”, the Metropolitan police have said in a statement.

PA Media reports a Met statement said: “Detectives from the Met’s specialist crime command met with representatives from the BBC on the morning of Monday 10 July. The meeting took place virtually.

“They are assessing the information discussed at the meeting and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed.

“There is no investigation at this time.”

Given the legal issues around prematurely naming someone, it seems unlikely they'd be officially named today.

BBC: Claims about presenter 'rubbish' - young person's lawyer

Quote

Claims made by the mother at the heart of the BBC presenter scandal are "rubbish", a lawyer representing the young person has said.

In a letter to the BBC, the lawyer makes claims that throw doubt on the story that has dominated front pages through the weekend.

It says the young person sent a denial to the Sun on Friday evening saying there was "no truth to it".

However, the "inappropriate article" was still published, the lawyer said.

We received this letter late this afternoon and it makes key claims that, if true, potentially throws some doubt on the story that was on the front pages throughout the weekend.

It's a letter from a lawyer who says he represents the young person at the centre of the allegations and he says the young person sent a denial to the Sun newspaper on Friday evening, before publication, by WhatsApp, to tell them the statement their mother made about them was "totally wrong and there was no truth in it".

Nonetheless the Sun newspaper proceeded to publish what the lawyer and the client called “their inappropriate article”.

The letter from the lawyer also says: “For the avoidance of doubt, nothing inappropriate or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality and the allegations reported in the Sun newspaper are 'rubbish'.”

We don't know the truth of this, we're reporting what it says in the letter.

Well a Murdock paper lying about the BBC ,shocker.

A trash paper routinely ruining peopled lives for tittle tackle of it's thick readers

It's all a bit odd. Why would the mother of the "victim" make it all up?

Another theory: the "victim" was blackmailing the BBC star, and is a bit annoyed his mum contacted a newspaper to essentially turn the money taps off. So has gone against everything she said out of spite.

I don't read the paper, merely putting another theory into the mix.

'his mum'  so it was a young man,  I read it was a female more than once,  and the photo of the presenter - did it show his face because it could have been anyone,  was it all made up to get money for a 'story'?
