Yep really - someone said it was to be some kind of bar/restaurant development(?), but currently it is just a closed, empty space.

So, that's a grand total of three? Stroke Support at Moorfoot, BHF and St. Lukes?

Think that's it?

(I don't believe there has been a BHF on Pinstone Street for a good few years now - it went well before Mid City House was demolished - prsumably the one further down The Moor replaced it).

There's another one half way up on the other side. Or their used to be. Haven't been down town for months.

Also charity shops on Chapelwalk, and Norfolk Row. Probably more that I'm not aware of.

Lot of cheapo shops too selling cheap imported stuff.

Not much in the way of quality shopping in Sheffield to be honest. But then there's not a lot of money about.

Oh really,

Well how about places like Yards Store, Fjall Raven, (soon to be opened) Cream Store as recent additions for a start - places quite happily selling tops over £200, hoodies at £500, some jackets into the £1000s of pounds.    We have stores like Sostrene Grene, Monki, Weekend, Blacks, Waterstones,  Clarks, JD Sports, Sketchers which are hardly at poundland levels, the latter selling the average price of their shoes around £80-90 a pop.  Right here in our "cheapo" "tat filled" city centre we miraculously have jewellers like James Hadley selling £3,000 rings or HL Browns selling £12,000 necklaces and  £25,000 Rolex watches.  There are specialist shops like Moonko, hand making goods or art stores like Fred Aldous selling blank sketchbooks at £25 a pop, just a couple of examples of the influx of small, specialist, independent stores which have opened up around the city centre.

We still have M&S, Atkinsons and even to an extent, Next all more than catering for the middle class wannabe upper crowds and can hardly be dismissed as cheapo low quality.  They more than go towards filling the void left by the major shrinkage of the John Lewis real estate and complete collapse of the Debenhams one.  That's before we get on to all the premium brands scattered around that massive mall just a few miles out of the city centre.

Hell, even the much derided Sports Direct/USC has plenty of higher end designer £50+ £100+ £250+ goods in its store.  Its not all £5 Donnay t-shirts.

When are some people going to wake up and realise that the days of multiple massive grandeous Department Stores on every corner and High Streets packed with crowds of eager shoppers have long gone.  For the Department and Chain Stores that are still limping on they are all generally a shadow of their former selves or in some case are deliberately so specialist/priced or exclusive that they keep a limited and targeted market to keep going.

Its very clear that even the biggest most prominent cities are facing big casualties on their High Streets are are having to adapt and repurpose.  If places like London's Oxford Street, Mancheter's Market Street or Leeds' Briggate have felt the impact of changing retail habits it blindingly obvious that the smaller less prominent cities down the list will feel it even more. The way people shop is changing and has been even since the advent of big box out of town stores.   What defines a "quality" shop is judged well beyond the old stereotype image of the big store with the perfume girls, tinkling piano in the restaurant and lift attendants.

Yes of course we have losts of discounters, charity shops and nail bars because not everyone can afford designer price tags.  But that's no different to any other town centre.

However, lets not pretend that we dont have quality shopping just because we are absent a Harvey Nichols.  There are loads of quality stores in the city. Probably a bigger range now than there has been for some time - if people actually take time to properly explore and look.

Slight correction to the above - BHF is on Arundel Gate, not The Moor.

There's a small BHF on The Moor too, I believe.

Yes, Grey to Green is being extended up Fargate. 👍

The surfacing on Fargate will also be extended through Pinstone Street, Charles Street, etc.
