If they did it regularly they could pre-warn people to keep it clear, they did with the re-surfacing works.

Most blockages are caused by falling leaves in the autumn - not really easily to do it regularly.

They used to manage it, there's a drain across the road from our office that's been full to the brim with silt/debris for the last 10 years.

Welcome to the consequences of 13 years of Tory government and massive cuts to council funding.

Not sure why your pointing that out to me, they seemed to find a million to put some useless containers at the top of Fargate, perhaps they should spend the money they do have more wisely.

When I was a kid, there used to be a big lorry come round every few weeks cleaning the drains,,

It was a big contraption, they used to stick a big pipe in the drains to suck the debris out, then stick another pipe in to flush em out.

Us kids use to follow it up the road in fascination.

I've lived on my road for 20 years now, and never seen them cleaned.

I remember that type of lorry, big circular drum on the back, lift the manhole stick a pipe down and clear the drain, not seen one for years.

A million wouldn't go anywhere near doing  every drain in the city on a regular basis, It's all reactive now. Anyone actually reported the drain being blocked?

Hope it's on double yellows because it's well nigh impossible to clean drains with the volume of parked cars these days.

It wouldn't but its a million wasted that if they were that strapped for cash they wouldn't even consider doing.

Why should anyone have to report it, it should be routine maintenance.

It's within the confines of a hatched box denoting a bus stop so the park cars excuse doesn't wash.
