they move staff out of ticket office

they get rid of ticket office

that gets rid of rules and regulations about having to have people manning the station

they get rid of all staff

That gets rid of people sat around in the ticket office doing very little selling of tickets, yes.

It does not get rid of rules and regulations about manning the station - these are entirely separate, covered by national H&S regulations, and specific ones in the various legislation governing the Rail Industry and its operation.

I have had two work positions that are now a part of history, fortunately for me they were well paid, and I survived both. I have no wish for anyone to lose their job,  however I recall when steel catchers were no longer required.

No 'expertise', just knowledge picked up in life, through my interest in transport matters in general, and having an ex-BR manager as a very good friend.

When was the last time you had your roof thatched?

I've never had mine done

I use roof tiles

@Jack Grey- you would be surprised how many thatched properties there are - there is a village not far from Torquay of which I guess 65-70% of the properties are thatched, and I know a number of others, especially down in the Surrey/Sussex area.

You're really clutching at straws there and I'm sure you know what my point was

'm sure all roofs were thatched at some point but because of the progress of technology and manufacturing it's a dying trade

Like in sure that we still have chimney sweeps

Highlighted bit - 🤣

The rest - maybe they were all thatched but I doubt it. I wouldn't call it a 'dying' trade - more niche/specialised - and very expensive.

And yes, we still have chimney sweeps.
