Tony Bennett Dies Aged 96

Another era comes to a close.

Tony Bennett, was one of kind. His songs made people feel good about themselves, and the World.

As a kid, remembering him singing Rags to Riches, at the Carleton Cinema, when they first starting playing pop songs at intermissions. Then got to see him often when he had his regular gigs at the Royal York hotel in TO.

His best song IMO was: "If I ruled the World"

If I ruled the world
Every day would be the first day of spring
Every heart would have a new song to sing
And we'd sing of the joy every morning would bring

If I ruled the world
Every man would be as free as a bird
Every voice would be a voice to be heard
Take my word we would treasure each day that occurred

My world would be a beautiful place
Where we would weave such wonderful dreams
My world would wear a smile on its face
Like the man in the moon has when the moon beams

If I ruled the world
Every man would say the world was his friend
There'd be happiness that no man could end
No my friend, not if I ruled the world

Every head would be held up high
There'd be sunshine in everyone's sky
If the day ever dawned when I ruled the world

A bit different from the song of the same name today, by "Nas:?

The world's hot, my son got knocked
Evidently, it's elementary, they want us all gone eventually
Trooping outta state for a plate of knowledge
If coke was cooked without the garbage, we'd all have the top dollars

Imagine everybody flashing fashion, designer clothes
Lacing ya clique up with diamond Roles
Your people holding dough, no parole, no rubbers

Go in raw, imagine law with no undercovers

Ah Bless,  R.I.P.

Sinatra's favourite singer,  didn't he make a record with Lady Gaga.

The song I remember him singing is 'I lost my heart in San Francisco'

Giving it plenty with Lady Gaga........

S.F.'s gone the way of the music, Cressida.

You wouldn't lose your heart there today.

Maybe your wallet, or your car!

I've no inclination to go there,   Hollywood studios and the film stars of the 30s, 40s and 50s (where they lived and their lives)  have always interested me,  nothing else really thaat I can think of,  maybe The Hamptons lol.

You live in the Dominican Republic,  there was a guy on Birmingham forum,  who was always in his swimming pool - username Trapio/Tramp (Norman)  loved the place.

To bad you never got to see it in it's prime. It really was just like a Hollywood film set. In technicolor! Waterfront restaurants, a real Chinatown, the hills and the trollies.  Happy people.

Cheers for that -  'They don't make them like that any more'

(My father cried when she died!)
