Sound of Freedom thunders past $100M at the box office and edges out Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible on Wednesday - despite being dismissed as QAnon conspiracy fodder

Ahead of the dual-blockbuster opening weekend for Oppenheimer and Barbie, independent film Sound of Freedom has cemented its status as a surprise summer hit after surging past $100 million at the box office.

Since its July 4 release date, the Angel Studios thriller about child sex trafficking has upended industry expectations, raking in nearly seven times its $14.5 million budget in North American ticket sales.

Tim Ballard is a modern day hero and everyone should watch this if they can.

What do they hate about it, I don't really understand, isn't it a true story about busting child sex trafficking?

From Wikipedia:

Quote

The film was inspired by the life of Tim Ballard, who left the Department of Homeland Security around 2013 and founded Operation Underground Railroad to work with local police in other countries to catch child sex traffickers. The film's central plot point, that of a brother and sister lured to a photo shoot in Honduras, is not an event that Ballard has claimed actually happened.[54] According to American Crime Journal reporters, Ballard embellished details about the story told in the film.[55]

"Loosely based on real events" seems a better way of describing it than "true story".

I'd forgotten that Jim Caviezel was the Qanon bloke that did that mad speech about adrenochrome harvesting.  On the plus side, I thought he was pretty good in Person of Interest.
