crookesey
At long last the police are being allowed to concentrate on police work, they will not be the first call in respect of none violent mental health issues.

Tipstaff
If a caller indicates that they are unable to control the victim in distress and that they are 'likely to cause harm to themselves or others' then the police have a duty of care to attend. IMHO I think the decision for police not to attend changes nothing really.

Quite true. just another public relations exercise where they excuse their failures by claiming they spend all their time looking after people with mental problems. Shouldn't the people decide what the police will attend as the people are the ones who pay them ?

Shouldn't the people decide what the police will attend as the people are the ones who pay them ? I think this does apply for the most part, as our police do the job 'by consent'. However, they have been used as a 'stop gap' for failures in the NHS and ambulance service for years now. They've also been used as a political football may times by successive governments. 6 minutes ago, hackey lad said: Which people ? I think this relates to policing by public consent. There is no-one else to call.

Agree entirely, but there isn't... so nothing here will stop concerned members of the public from calling the police. If the Police turn a blind eye, all they can really do to stress or highlight their concern... is call more often. There is nowhere else to turn. I'm afraid the men in white coats with a dosed syringe are long gone, or they could even be an old US thing? However, if a person is at risk of harm to themselves or others, the police have to deal with it.
