How is that a right?

It's a right not to be offended.

Look, If i call you a fag that's a hate crime.

I'm a straight male so you call me whatever you like. No hate crime.

You have 'gay privilage'.

Including gay people such as yourself.

Indeed.

Preferences to political ideas I mean.

Having a rough idea about which political ideology you identify with, or a particular dislike of a particular government isn't prejudice. That is, I'm not prejudiced towards Conservatives at all.

Though this particular iteration of the Tory Party is very difficult to support, even for Tories it seems.

I suppose if you want to look at it like that then yes I do have gay privilege.

Though I suspect if you and and a gay person were to trade places as teenagers for a year, I doubt whether you'd still think there is gay privilege.

That was 30+ years ago so irrelevant to today.

There is gay privilege in 2023

It's not a case of the way I want to look at it.

It's the way it is.

That’s not true - it doesn’t preclude straight white males from being a victim of hate crime - it’s just that there’s not really any derogatory words aimed around a straight males sexual orientation - although there are many for non-straight males..

that sort of tells a story on its own in terms of who is privileged and who is not.

you’re not prevented from calling a gay person whatever you want - but you are if you’re doing it to target their sexual orientation. The same in reverse applies.

I’m a straight male and I’ve called you a few things on here and you’ve grassed me up. You can call me what you like, I don’t give a s**t. You have Daddy privilege.

The term fag is a slur against a protected characteristic (homosexuality)

The same 'hate crime' could be used if someone were to use the term spacker for a disabled person.

So there isn't really a privilege.

My bold

If they have a different protected characteristic then yes you are right.

But your average non disabled etc straight white man has no hate crime protection in the law as far as I'm aware.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong though

Yes there is. You've just named 2.
