Why don't they give them bicycles instead of cars? They only issue tickets to parked vehicles so it's not as if they have to chase after motorists... ... and it'd be more in keeping with SCC policy! There are places that get heavily parked and if the CEO’s had to find a “legal” parking space and walk back, the drivers who are in contravention of the restrictions would probably be long gone. If they had to comply with the restrictions at all times, on many occasions, enforcement would be impractical. They are told to use the proper parking spaces whenever they can. There’s also the safety aspect. CEO’s can be subject to harassment, abuse and violence. They have to consider their own safety and be able to leave the area rapidly if necessary. None of it is about do as I say, not as I do. It’s about the practicalities of enforcing. You need to actually think about the practicalities of enforcement that I’ve outlined in the last post. It is OK for them to do it and they do it for very good reasons. So you agree it is acceptable to park over double yellows, on a corner, over the pavement and block cycle paths. Some might say therefore Sheffield Parking Services are not fit for service.... Edited July 29, 2023 by 26b-

They cannot enforce safely or effectively if they always have to observe the restrictions. That’s why they are exempt. They observe the regulations if they can. Its the same situation everywhere in this country.

That sounds like common sense but you know what they say about common sense… I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those accusing the council of ‘trying to kill cyclists’ etc are the same ones who defend pavement parking for various lame excuses in other circumstances. They need to park close to where they are working and it is acceptable for them to park on a restriction if there’s nowhere else they can park. That is standard operating procedure for parking enforcement here and elsewhere. They are allowed to do it. That’s what you may think, but the legal position is rather different. its Charles street, straight behind her are parking spaces or on union street she could have parked the vehicle on either road, not on a cycle lane, not within 10 metres of a junction, not on the pavement and not on double yellows. thats not acceptable when there are spaces available within 50 yds or are they going to move the car if they go more than 100 yds away? the excuse of "its all disabled round here" isnt correct either. Charles street directly behind her isnt disabled only. Union street which she is on isnt disabled only on the side of the road she is on. It is on the other side of the road but its evidently quiet so are you suggesting that all the spaces are taken? Even if all the spaces are taken then she could have parked on Charles St not in a cycle lane and away from a junction or on Union st not in a cycle lane and away from a junction.
