Maui Fire: First Victims Named As Death Toll Reaches 106

Recommended Posts

The first names of people killed by wildfires in Maui have been released by officials, one week after at least 106 people died on the Hawaiian island.

Just two people - Robert Dyckman, 74, and Buddy Jantoc, 79 - were named.

Three others were identified but their names are being withheld until their families are notified.

The catastrophic fire, which destroyed the historic town of Lahaina within hours, has been followed by a slow and gruelling search for victims.

Mr Jantoc's body was discovered at his home in a senior-living facility in Lahaina, the New York Times reported.

Absolutely tragic...

This is interesting though.

Fire and Fury: The Story of the Maui Fire and its Implications for Climate Change is a gripping and eye-opening account of one of the most devastating wildfires in Hawaii's history, and how it reveals the urgent need to address the global climate crisis. The book chronicles the events of August 8-11, 2023,

The book was released on August 10th 🤔

Anyone else find that odd?

While the cause of this latest fire is not yet determined, reports say it was possibly caused by downed power lines, by gusty winds.

You only have to look inside this book at the stilted and cliched language to see that it has been written by AI. Unfortunately, this is the latest get rick quick idea - note to "Dr Stones" - it doesn't work.

For those who aren't aware, anyone can get an AI to bash them out a book (or in this case a 44-page pamphlet), shove a stock image on it and call it a cover, and upload the whole thing in an afternoon. Don't be fooled that it's a paperback either, they are all print on demand. High time these people were cracked down on.

So someone knocked up something as quickly as possible in an attempt to make a quick buck.

How fires start isn't the issue, there are plenty of natural causes even before you consider human  input (whether deliberate like arson or inadvertent like discarding a glass bottle that acts as a lens focusing the suns rays). Soaking wet vegetation doesn't burn very well. Tinder dry stuff does.

I've always wondered ,, how they often manage to catch and charge someone for arson, after the event  ..

When people die, it is THE ISSUE!

It's certainly an issue (and a very important one). The conditions that enabled it to spread so widely and so quickly is also another.
