With all these wonderfully well paid executives, how come Sheffield is in such a mess, keeps making incredible mistakes like chopping down thousands of healthy trees in the midst of a clean air challenge, and managed to turn Sheffield city centre into a ghost town?

It's just not good enough.

On all the above, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Of course we can always fall back on the standard answer to your question round these parts.... It's Maggie Thatcher's fault / if only the Tories would give us more money in Sheffield, we could afford to pay for better Chief Execs.

We pay more than enough for Chief Execs as it is thankyou.

I just want them to do their jobs better /smarter. Stop wasting money on gimmicks like shopping containers. Maybe instead of getting booted upstairs to another well paid job for failure, there could be some penalty for cocking things up, ....maybe like having to take a job as a carer in an old people's home for £11 an hour...

Container parks work the world over, nothing wrong with them

Had the execution been better in Sheffield it would have worked here also.

Well that can't be right...
... you're supposed to be the one defending SCC! :suspect:

Have you and Mr Planner had a bit of a tiff? :hihi:

You could use that last sentence for so many things in Sheffield and they all lead back to the Town Hall

Hardley in the public eye? Are you serious?

They are the senior manager of a large public sector organisation which has wide ranging responsibilities and a budget of over £350m a year.

Not as big as a large city council, but after that, pretty big.

The leaders who approved it would no doubt tell you to go consult the temporary staff agencies, who would confirm that what they are  paying is the going rate for someone that senior.

For £300 a day you would be struggling to get a senior professional ( like an engineer, or project manager) never mind a chief executive..

How many times have you seen me Swales give an interview then? Do you know what he looks like? Most do not

Well if Martin Swales receives £250,000 for overseeing the services of the Combined S. Yorks Authority with a population of approximately 1.8 million,

I hate to break it to you but Sheffield's Cheif Exec., Kate Josephs, roughly receives the same for overseeing the services of the 590,000 in Sheffield.

Taken per head of population. Mr Swales appears to be a bargain.

You need to look at the differences in responsibilities between a local authority and a combined authority. Chalk and cheese

That’s why local authority chief execs get paid quite a bit more than MCA chief execs.

Usually. But not in this case

The day rate that’s been quoted is for an interim.

The normal salary for the SYMCA chief exec will be significantly lower than that of SCC’s chief exec and probably similar to Barnsley Council’s.
