People In Bristol Using Log Burners Could Face £300 Fines

Recommended Posts

People using log burners in their homes could face £300 fines in an attempt to reduce air pollution.

Bristol City Council is expected to approve the new enforcement policy during a public meeting on Tuesday.

Burning wood releases fine particles which can cause serious health problems, according to government data.

Householders in Bristol could be fined between £175 and £300 if they emit more than 3g of smoke per hour from their chimneys.

Council staff will issue two written warnings to anybody caught emitting too much smoke, before handing out fines if the levels of smoke continue.

The rules are being proposed after local authorities in England were given new legal powers as part of the government's 25-year environmental plan.

And they're going to measure that how? 🤣

"Oh you've got a log burner, please wait while we get ladders/scaffolding and climb onto your roof to weigh the smoke"
In the mean time the owner will just damp the fire or snuff it out totally.

Will they have to get warrants to go onto peoples property?

and before any of that just ask yourself, are the council really going to pay people to perform this task?

At night? on overtime?

Do they have a secret money tree no-one else is aware of?

Exactly!

My dad used to have a log burner, he only used it during winter when it was cold, and by the time he wanted to light it it was dark, so you'd never see the smoke anyway 🤦‍♂️

Smoke ?

Yash I can see that being about as successful and TV licence vans

Because  even if they think they see smoke they have no right to access your home to prove your using a log burner

If they knocked on my door id tell them to go forth and multiply with themselves

It's infuriating

Green policies have made energy more expensive than ever and then they fine people for using a cheaper alternative

It used to be that a mans home is his castle

Now you only lease it

Everyone else has more rights on what you do with your home then we do
