It is the spatial planning policy for the city. It is used in determining planning applications. It essentially says what can be built where. The controversy was about the proposed gipsy and traveller site at Eckington Way. Terry Fox and Bryan Lodge voted against the local plan because of this proposal. Delbow
Councillors should be able to vote how they want, surely? Being told to vote en bloc seems anti-democratic.

True, but national Labour are being very rigid about what they will tolerate - any cooperation with the Green Party will see you expelled, for example, and a Labour member appears to have been blocked from standing for MP because she 'liked' a tweet from Nicola Sturgeon saying she had recovered from Covid They are control freaks - this should not be welcome.

This leads to the question as to why we need different MPs/councillors if they are all ordered to do what the whip/centre decides.

Yeah, it's important to have people willing to speak up. Look at Thurrock Council who wasted all that money - they would have benefited from someone who said 'hang on, this isn't right'.
