It is funny, none of these really bad starts in life seem to make the blind bit of difference to them when they get a sniff of power. 

I'm not sure about that. I remember when Angela Rayner, along with Jeremy Hunt and Matt Hancock did a stint taking calls on LBC, when their regular presenter was on holiday. Unlike Hunt and Hancock, the calls from some men to Angela were awful - they just shouted and sneered at her, even though she was perfectly pleasant. Hancock and Hunt were spoken to respectfully even though the subjects under discussion were things like the NHS and the economy, both of which have taken a battering.

I suspect some people treat Rayner differently is because of her background and the fact she is female. 

The fact that she grew up on a council estate is neither here nor there to me. I do think the fact that her mother suffered with bipolar disorder is probably more significant.

She did.

I think as soon as she became leader she did an interview where she spoke of her background.

Similarly when David Cameron became leader, he also spoke of his background.

We all heard a great deal from Margaret Thatcher about her upbringing from her strict father and living above a shop.

 

Not sure why Angela Rayner is being singled out....Probably something to do with growing up on a council estate.

I think you'd like to believe that, and want everyone else to think that, however the only times I've heard her talk about her background is when she's asked.

I know the Mail and Telegraph love to make a song and dance about her background.

Incidentally, did you know that Sajid Javid's father was a bus driver in Birmingham, and now Javid is very wealthy?

Thatcher never stopped lecturing us about how things were tough in Grantham in the 1930s, about how as a woman it was so hard to "get on", about how she was snubbed by the establishment on, on and on....

Well Angela I was also brought up on A council estate still living on one  as are  millions of people in the the UK . 

But when I meet people I ( as well as most others like me)  I do not go around saying ,"hello i am  Peter Paul or Mary and I was brought up on a council estate . 

 

These (very rare now ) MP's should pack this type of flag waving in and concentrate on the job in hand which is to represent their voters without having to justify their Labour heritage by jingoistic comments .

As well they should  hopefully practice what they preach and live among or near on to the people they so enthusiastically claim to represent .

Tbh I think she comes across as a bit thick- isn't well educated and I wouldn't want her as deputy leader of GB.
