American Xl Bully Dog Ban

The person quoted who owns two is making a very good point, good owners with well trained dogs might be there, but also any bad owners with badly trained dogs could go too, which would upset the apple cart and if they do attack somebody, another dog, it again puts the whole breed under more scrutiny

Again the government are missing the point on this with the ban (thats not a ban), prospective owners of dogs should be scrutinised more, maybe training for prospective owners, proving their dogs are trained, maybe dogs should be kept on leads in public.

at the moment owning and breeding dogs is far too easy and theres far too much money in it. People who dont give a **** get dogs just because they can and dont care about them.

Maybe dog ownership should be brought up to date and treated like firearms, with a certificate, after all dogs can kill too.

Or just ban Bullies.

So much easier.

That's quite correct.  We need,  for a change,  a proper thought out response to this problem which considers bad owners,  the ability to breed or buy dogs with no knowledge of them

and put a stop to anybody owning a dog when neither they nor the dog have been properly trained and socialised. There are many angles to consider regarding dog licensing,

some breeds only being allowed out when wearing muzzles and on leads etc.  The problem will NEVER be solved just by banning a particular breed.

If Bullies are banned, eventually no one will have one.

Bullies are not the only dogs which attack.  I have been attacked by a Japanese Akita or similar and a German Shepherd together ( also  threatened attack by 3  Staffies together which I managed to fend off ).

We need to do far  more about the owners and breeders and make sentences for bad owners far more severe. The subject needs some thought and input from those who know what they are talking about.

Bans have been talked about before but that's too difficult and doesn't work and spaying / neutering of certain dogs needs to be considered too along with Lead laws & muzzles.

How are you going to weed out bad owners?

Who is going to check or ask if they have a license?

Do you honestly think the chav eliment of our society, the majority that would want one of these monsters is going to be put off from getting one because they have not a got a licence or have not attended a dog training course?

The naivety is astonishing.

Yes, I am sure most folk will be more than happy to approach a tracksuit wearing chav with a joint and neck tattoos and say " excuse me, why is your dog not wearing a muzzle"

🙄🙄🙄

First of all,  all owners should have to attend dog training classes where they themselves are also under the spotlight  No certificate  -  no dog licence (yes, bring them back ) and no dog..

Every dog should be chipped at a vets  -  certificate shown and licence shown.  RSPCA could be paid to provide Dog Wardens - paid for out of  new licence fees.

I'm sure they would once they got run in and recieved very severe punishment..

You are the naive because you subscribe to the "We can't stop knives" ,  We can't stop dog attacks",   We can't stop this",    "We can't stop that",  Nobody ever really tries.

Of course you, will be the first to complain about compulsory training classes and cost of certificates and licences.      "Always take the easy way out Bundy"

By the way,   If we can afford traffic wardens,  we can also afford dog wardens to enforce the law properly.

Ok I'll bite, the reason the ban (that isn't a ban) will take so long is because they need to define the genes and characteristics of the breed, unscrupulous breeders will just rebreed to get those out of the dogs and carry on as normal.

"Illegal" breeders should be the first thing sorted, maybe bring in official licences for dog breeding, and make animal welfare more of a priority
