Anyone Fancy Trying Out Morris Dancing?

How is morris dancing racist?

Look up the history of Morris (Moorish) dancing and the Mummers' plays (featuring a Moorish or Turkish knight), and you'll see that, in the past, some performers darkened their faces to get into character or to disguise their features.

Ignore the present day, agenda-driven, "wokes under the bed" scaremongers.

Some used to black-up their faces,  now they use a blue colour.

The Lancashire Cotton dancers used soot.

From my understanding, the Lancashire dancers used soot on their faces to show affiliation to the miners.

I have an abiding memory from my only visit to the Sidmouth Folk Festival, of watching the Garstang (Lancashire) Morris Men marching into town in their clogs to the tune Salmon Tails up the Water .
