So its just a tree. What were these guys motives? It's more than just a tree though. It has special memories for lots of folk, loved ones ashes spread under the tree for starters, proposals, an emblem for the North East, was featured in a movie Robin Hood with Kevin Costner and I believe was the most photographed tree in the UK. Whoever cut it down should face around 5 years in prison in my opinion. It was a act of needless vandalism and disgraceful.

As far as I've read, the tree itself wasn't protected but being out in the middle of nowhere, your average Joe public & the local authority probably didn't think it needed to be, until these two idiots came along. Maybe we might learn the reason they decided to chop the tree down when it goes to trial? It's not as though they can claim it was blocking their view. It was just an act of vandalism to a tree that probably still had a few hundred years of life left in it. Maybe the default should that all trees out in public areas should be automatically protected as a matter of course & that if you want to fell a tree then you have to seek permission? Not all at once obviously, I don't mind if he gets the occasional toilet break 👍

Imagine the opportunity of being able to post a photo of yourself on social media while pouring the content of your child's potty over the head of a numpty. I'll guarantee, that low level crime & anti-social behaviour would be wiped out in a month. Edited May 5 by Baron99
