Kosovo has accused Serbia of being behind a paramilitary group which ambushed a police patrol and clashed with Kosovan forces on Sunday.

The authorities in Pristina displayed an array of modern weaponry they said the group was using, including two Serbian-made armoured cars and a grenade launcher, alongside a document allegedly showing the grenade launcher, made by the Zastava arms company, had been supplied by the Serbian army.

White House warns of ‘unprecedented’ Serbian troop buildup on Kosovo border

US calls for immediate withdrawal of forces as British troops sent to reinforce Nato peacekeeping

The White House has said there is an “unprecedented” buildup of Serbian troops and armour along the Kosovo border and called on Belgrade to withdraw them immediately.

The Nato peacekeeping force in Kosovo, Kfor, has been reinforced with British troops and the Biden administration said it was consulting with allies to ensure Kfor’s posture “matches the threat”.

“We are monitoring a large Serbian military deployment along the border with Kosovo that includes an unprecedented staging of advanced Serbian artillery, tanks and mechanized infantry units,” the spokesperson for the US national security council, John Kirby, said on Friday.

Just been told a family member has been recalled to base to help prepare some vehicles for deployment. Thankfully he won't be going with them though.

A contested part of the world.  I think generally in the west we are pretty ignorant of all these cultural, political, religious and ethnic «  fault lines » throughout parts of Eastern Europe and in the former Soviet sphere of influence. Eg Nagorno-Karabakh, Kosovo , Abhkasia. I tried a bit of research last night into this in the Caucasus and gave up. So complex.
