El Cid
https://www.theglobaleconomy.com/United-Kingdom/happiness/ The graphs show people at their happiest in 2020, rather strange since that was when COVID hit us for six. Economic growth in 2020 was -11% What will make people happy?
cressida
A comfortable lifestyle, surrounding yourself with happy people and a similar disposition and outlook on life, a peaceful family home, fresh air and holiday/s, always giving yourself something to look forward to (have said this before) Lots of hugs and cuddles from those you love, making others happy. Giving not taking all the time. Live and let live. That's a start.

IMO security, enough money to cover expenditure, and good relationships is what makes people happy.
Al Bundy
Money. It doesn't buy you happiness but it helps you look for it in a lot more places. Edited October 16, 2023 by Al Bundy

If you're not happy now there's no guarantee money will make a big difference but it will be better than the alternative.

Yes something similar has been done before: UK considers factors for a national well-being index - BBC News Although people scoffed at the time, I thought the idea of a national well being index, rather than people measuring happiness in traditional GDP terms, is very worthy. Money can keep depression at bay as it helps you avoid falling on hard times, but it's certainly no guarantee of happiness in my experience. If the Government have more money, then people will have better health and education.

I agree, but that means more taxes which people won't like. And it also depends on how well and on what it's spent.
