50/50 heavy beast from the east deep snow jan ,so  stock up just in case i reckon

Well February is always considered to be the coldest month.

https://www.almanac.com/why-february-so-cold#:~:text=This happens because while Earth, temperatures continue to trend downward.

But hearing weatherman, Paul Hudson a few weeks ago, the weather appears to be following the predicted trend due to climate change of us having relatively milder but but wetter Winters with the atmosphere holding more moisture & it dropping on us rain rather than snow.

Just seen the weather from the week ahead.  Next weekend looks good, clearer, sunny but lower temperatures for a few days.

Who is forecasting a Beast From The East mid January?

"The Met Office has issued its verdict on worries of a second 'Beast form the East' as the same conditions that created the weather monster could return next month.

In late February, 2018, the UK was hit by harsh easterly winds that brought with them a polar air mass, plunging much of the country into snowy and icy conditions. Many Brits faced travel chaos as the weather phenomena lasted until early March.

But now the conditions that created, a sudden stratospheric warming (SSW), could potentially take place next month, raising fears of a repeat. An SSW is where the winds in the stratosphere, the bit of the atmosphere around 10-50km above the Earth’s surface, reverse from their usual west to east, and go east to west, or stop or slow down.

This triggers warming in the stratosphere, and opens the pathway for easterly winds to progress southwards which in turns can weaken the jet stream. On occasion, these easterly winds bringing with them a cold air mass, can trigger a dramatic cold plunge.

It’s feared that these changes in wind patterns that cause an SSW are ahead of us, meaning it could lead to a second 'Beast from the East'. But the Met Office have so far played down any certainty of a severe cold snap in January, but cautioned the chance of wintry showers is "increasingly likely".

They said: "Currently the chance of widespread severe cold is still deemed low, but still the risk of impacts from cold, ice and snow is greater than normal."

So not likely to be BftE but certainly some of the white stuff heading our way.

My money's on the Daily Express.   They'll also link it to rising / falling house prices & probably run a piece about how Lady Di loved to frolic in the snow, so they can stick a photo of her on the front page as usual.

Extreme weather towards the end of the week, a deadly freeze

Temperatures as low as 7 degrees apparently

7 degrees?  Nothing freezes at 7 degrees.

Not on this planet anyway.
