A proper Sheffielder is someone who has Sheffield as their home no matter how long they have been here or where they come from. If they live in Sheffield they are a Sheffielder.I came here by marriage from Barnsley and our kids were born and bred here.I've lived in Sheffield longer than Barnsley now so surely I'm a Sheffielder !As for the accent it is changing  because it is getting mixed with other accents whether British or foreign.

I visit Barnsley every week , I love the blunt way that Barnsley folk greet not only each other but complete strangers as well, The whole feeling in the Markets and Town centre reminds me of the Sheffield I now miss so much .

The place is a shining light in a disappearing working class Englishness.

A place where every one still seems to know the unique way that makes life a continuous journey that has seen it through countless generations.

I and my mate,  once drove into Barnsley  around 1974 and stopped a pedestrian  to ask for directions. He turned out to be Charlie Williams and straight away he said  "Ey up flower"      we had a reight laugh.

I was in a shop a few weeks ago and the lass asked me “ does tha want serving or has tha just come in for a warm “ .
some people do not understand this way of speaking , perhaps they think it’s course or rude , but those who have been brought up to say things as they are straight to the point do not turn a hair , To them it’s music to the ear , especially now in a disappearing England .

The parade or protest that went past the Market door way yesterday had among them people shouting “Jihad in Sheffield ,”.  not one or two but hundreds of them  , Is that against the law ?   If so where are the police , If not then explain why not .

The old ens I was standing with in that door way were asking what the Heck are they on about ,     along with some more choice words that is .

Had mi fish and chips from Market chippy , proper snap it was

The Jihad chanting has lead to questions between the Home Secretary and the police in London , In Sheffield it seems as though those in authority let these people do as they please .
