Yes. They will close the entrance/exit to Arundel Gate leaving the carpark to be accessed only from Pond Street.

PowerPoint Presentation (sheffield.gov.uk)

That's not the case according to the planning application. Only the exit onto Arundel Gate is gone, the entrance from Arundel Gate remains, as does Pond St and Milk St access.

Are you sure? On one of the elevation docs the rear wall showed to block the top of the Pond St staircase, only allowing access to the car park door from the staircase but not AG.

Only in so far as this statement in one of the planning docs, in relation to vehicle access, not pedestrian....

"The car park has two-way access onto Milk Street and Pond Street which is unaffected by the development proposals. The southbound Arundel Gate access into the car park is unaffected by the development proposals. The Arundel Gate egress ramp from the car park will be extinguished...."

If the people of Sheffield wanted some old shipping containers passed off as shops, they'd have used the ones at the top of Fargate. Read the room, Tracks.

They work well in other cities (Manchester,London,Newcastle) so why not Sheffield.

For the cynics amongst you, please remember:

Sheffield Council (Fargate): no idea what they were doing, ran in to unexpected problems, massively delayed, terrible reputation before the place even opened, shut before it then ever got a chance to get going.

STACK (Arundel Gate): Successful, private enterprise, experienced, know what they're doing, 9-10 existing locations in the north.

I'm not saying this site won't have it's issues, but it's being run by people who know what they're doing - that's a world of difference.

As was pointed out a million times during the Fargate debacle, these things can and often do work and are popular not just in other cities but already once before in our own city (Krynkl, at Shalesmoor).

London, Manchester and Newcastle have had the government investment that means there is enough footfall to support most Businesses. When major shops on Fargate are closing down, replacing them with a shipping container is akin to closing the local library and sticking a mobile one outside it  instead.

"Krynkl" (why do they all have such weird names?) can't have been that popular, as I have never heard of it.
