26b-6
Sheffield lags so far behind many other UK cities and towns in almost every measurable area, planning, innovativeness, transport, museums, urbanism, pocket-parks, architecture, new businesses start ups, street-art and so on.... Whom, why and what do think makes this town so far behind other places? On the plus side though Sheffield City Trust appear progressive, Sheffield's westerly suburbs are interesting and it's close proximity to the peak district is appealing. Guest busdriver1
Because rather than innovating they follow and that can only be done from behind.
Fredderick
Oh good. This again. Let’s all sit and blame the council for everything. 1

Yes, our council planners/councillors do seem a little slow and indecisive in some areas, but I don't quite see what you appear to. Other towns/cities suffer exactly the same issues, but because - and this is true of any town/city - we only see what we want to see, and South Yorkshire - Sheffield especially - is inhabited, it appears, by permanently depressives.

The government play their part in cutting back on local government spending but, apart from that, who else could be to blame.

That, if true, would apply anywhere. 1

echo beach
Somewhat geographically isolated being at the very south of Yorkshire. Leeds is more centrally placed and is seen more as a commercial hub. Historically reliant on heavy industry, coal and particularly steel, both of which have been decimated. Seen by the Tories as a hotbed of socialism and therefore not given the support of some other major cities to replace what has been lost. echo.
