Any tram extensions remain fairly unlikely for a long time still but if this area saw the tram brought to it, both in terms of costs and logistics the best solution would be to extend the Herdings Park line around the ring-road.

Certainly easier running it from Herdings and so less costly, but I’d doubt there are enough people within a reasonable walk of that route to justify the investment.

There are more people around the suggested  Chesterfield Rd route but it would be a lot more difficult and costly to deliver.

We on here are only suggesting things and in truth probably neither one or any other will actually be considered or constructed.

long time lurker very occasional poster...

Been thinking about this a fair bit as I drive along the ring road daily.

For me the obvious answer is taking the tram from Hurdings towards Norton.  But what is needed at the end of the line is a Park and Ride.  This could potentially be placed somewhere behind St. James' (the old sports club site is begging to be used).

This will have numerous benefits - not only for people wanting to go to St James'/Sheffield FC/Swimming etc from The Manor Top end, better public transport access to Graves Park but would also provide a link to public Transport to Chesterfield, Dronfield etc.

Not to mention opens up to possibility for commuters who normally have to endure Chesterfield Road /Blackstock Road to get in/out Sheffield City Centre have the option of getting the tram.  This would have benefits on the road network around Woodseats no end.

Surely this is a relatively cost effective way of extending the tram network and opening up additional revenue streams for the fat cats at Stagecoach/SCR?

its what a councillor has been told ,hes seen a outline of the idea, but to go to the chesterfield bowshaw island ,will lead to all sorts of problems, the lowedges junction to the dual carrage way is bad, then add another to the club just before the island is not good,

How many cars can car parks hold at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough?

they have not got a roundabout that takes thousands of cars a day and have supertram as well .

Penistone Road takes far more traffic and there's a couple large supermarkets close by.  Not many dual carriageways skirting the Lane.

On a Saturday the commuter traffic from Dronfield into Sheffield must be a  fraction of that of a weekday.
