ads36
probably because there's no money / budget for it. the concept is ambitious, i wouldn't be surprised by a cost of £20million. where's that coming from?
prince al
Who knows? Private investment, Lottery funding, individual donations, secret benefactor, direct government funding, Sport England?
bassett one
could that be why its reported sports england are objecting about the lack of cricket area? and they are putting in so much?
SheffieldForum
I believe initial plans were to build houses on the current ground in Dronfield as a means to offset funding for the new stadium. 1 Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop

It’s in green belt isn’t it? It is not allocated for housing in the Local Plan and I’d therefore doubt whether they’d get consent. The football club have teamed up with the rugby club for the stadium application. That might be where some of the money is coming from?

I'm just going on what I understood to have been said before and seems to be the case according to this article from The Star: "Mr Tims said the club would be submitting plans for housing on its current site in Dronfield, which it hopes will help fund the new stadium, to North East Derbyshire District Council at the same time as it submits the application for the Meadowhead site to Sheffield City Council." They can apply for what they like. Doesn’t mean they will get it. If it isn’t designated for housing in the local plan, they are going to have to present an extremely compelling reason for wanting to build housing on it. I rather doubt whether needing the money for a new stadium would be regarded as a compelling reason.
