Social Care For The Elderly

That's absolutely disgraceful and how many times have we heard our politicians promise to set up a proper care system with the proper funding in place.

Last time was during the Covid emergency when it was revealed how many hospital beds were being blocked by patients well enough to leave but nowhere for them to go.

Promises,  promises.

Indeed.

Surely a granny flat attatched to the main house would work out much cheaper than living sepparatly, just one council tax and just one standing charge for their fuel bill.

I agree, but sometimes just not possible. We already have a housing crisis with young people unable to afford a house of their own staying with parents, let alone space for the elderly relative.

I think houses in future need to think in terms of room for three generations living under the same roof, but at the moment these would be prohibitively expensive. Then there's the problem of someone having to give up their job to stay home to look after either the grandchildren or the elderly relative, when their salary is also essential to pay the mortgage... The problems just seem to mount up and up.

How have we got into this situation?
