The question should be why did those police not stop them going to sea in the first place , It stinks . You make it sound so simple to patrol hundreds of miles of coastline on a constant basis. Bear in mind that U.K. border force is also included in the project. The number who actually get to the U.K. via this route is peanuts as compared to the numbers who cross other borders within and outside Europe and our problem is the total failure of the Government to process illegal immigration whether they come by boat, lorry overstay their visa or drop in by helicopter. So what stinks?

The tunnel is like a high security prison. There is a permanent police base at the French end of the tunnel. The ports are swarming with UK and French cops. There are coastal patrols, helicopters, drones, you name it. Its a lovely part of the world too. Book a couple of nights in Wimereux, eat some nice food and prepare to be surprised . How are so many still making the journey if as you say the ports are swarming with police?

They don't all launch from the same 100m section of beach. A quick look at a map shows there's about 50km of coastline they could launch from.
