It seems that those from overseas in the care sector are paid less than those who were born in Britain, which is worrying since many people working in care homes receive the National Minimum Wage. So some exploitation going on there. 9 minutes ago, Axe said: This West 77 contributor is obviously very sensible and knowledgeable for having the same opinions or arguments as myself. No he wasn't sensible and knowledgeable. He was reactionary, showed poor reasoning and often ignorant of the facts. Which is why he was laughed off the Forum, and came back with a new username thinking he could kid everyone on. People aren't as daft as you, and you'd do well to remember that. cressida
Tories are stating that they can cut immigration? Why haven't they been able to do whatever they intend before then, I don't altogether blame them as the International law has stopped them, but they have to sort out the asylum backlog before the next election which would help their chances, refuse to give any more money to the French as they aren't doing enough - if Marie le Pen gets elected next time she will limit immigrants getting into France which could mean less arriving in the UK. I think you might be getting immigration and asylum mixed up Cress. As I understand it the Government can put caps on immigration as they see fit - so the 745,000 people in the last year, the government could've said no. However that would've included people from Hong Kong who have British passports, Ukrainian people fleeing the war, and some others who came here via established routes. I think international law is stricter as far as asylum seekers are concerned, we along with other countries are signatories to the Geneva Convention and the UNHCR. That's as I understand it. If anyone else can furnish with further info that'd be appreciated. 21 minutes ago, El Cid said: I wouldnt call it exploitation if they are coming here for a better life, employers also need to pay £600+ for their visas, every two years. If the employers are not paying the legal minimum wage, and thus undercutting British workers I would've thought that was illegal?

I don't disbelieve you but I was intimating that if the Tories expect to win the next election they'll have start showing us they have the wherewithal to limit immigration - a votegetter, and speed up the asylum backlog - another votegetter. I believe the electorate want this done.
