British Post Office Scandal

I think the moral of the story is that the little people can be powerful if we stick together to stand up for what is right.  The postmasters were told time and again they were the ‘the only one’.  There’s a reason for that, just as certain politicians continue to use the old  ‘divide and conquer’ technique successfully time and again,  Just maybe things are starting to change. It’s taken a TV drama to get us where we are today with the post office situation.  Politicians have acted more decisively now due to public outcry.  That is what ‘we can do about it’.

This is true. They were told they 'were the only one,' a deliberate lie, to divide and conquer. Heaven help the powers that be if the public stick together. The public sticking together are labelled as the 'silent' majority when it suits the elite, and 'the mob,' 'anarchists,' 'terrorists' and worse when it doesn't. (see the march on the whitehouse in America which was mostly a peaceful protest.)

Things are not starting to change judging by the useful idiot they've just had on the BBC, using words like 'balance,' 'patience' and 'wait and see.' He also insisted that they were investigating 'before the TV programme was aired' because it was already 'underoing in December'

This scandal has been 'undergoing' for more than 20 years!

I want to see people like Paula Vennels and others, held personally responsible, and the compensation to come from their own pockets, not the taxpayers. Let's see how she likes being made broke, homeless, her reputation ruined, followed by a spell in prison. That's what I call 'balance....'

There may be evidence of 'jobs for the boys' and perhaps some nepotism along the way, but we can hardly blame anyone other than those in charge at the Post Office (ably assisted by the incompetency at Fujitsu) for this scandal and gross injustice, surely?

It very much more than jobs for the boys.    There are 4 different worries connected with this life changing scandal.

1 - The disgraceful action of Fujitsu, who's bear all the blame for the software failures and then for their lying and conspiracy afterwards.

2 - The disgraceful action of the government who when awarding contracts should properly oversee  contractors work and failures and listen to grievances.

3 - The unbelievable legal situation where the Post Office were in charge of their own law and completely free of the Police and the DPP.

4 - The Post Office itself needs to be investigated for its many failings during this shameful failure which has dragged on for so many years.  Just not good enough for any company.

All 4 conspired to get more than 700 people sacked, many of them prosecuted and left with no job,  no homes,  with criminal records, some of them jailed,  4 committed suicide and many lives in ruins.

Had any one of those 4 failings worked properly,   much of the above could have been avoided but it's testament to the uncaring of politicians that all 3  failings existed and all 3 were ignored.

I do get a sense that things are starting to change. Let us hope.

Isn't Royal Mail a separate company from 'Post Office' ?

I think Paula Vennells was awarded a CBE.   I have been suspicious about the 'Honours System' for years and seems to serve those who are already 'well connected' and largely ignores nominations for and by 'ordinary folk'.  I do speak from personal experience.

Her CBE should be took away and be held accountable for some of the mess and the same goes for Fujitsu.  Now Sunaks on the case he should be looking in this direction.

James Arbuthnot when he was a Tory MP supported and helped the postmasters campaign.

They cannot strip her of the CBE while the public inquiry and police investigation is ongoing.

Over £54 million was won in compensation thanks to the personal endeavours of the victims, but most of that went in legal fees, leaving only a very small amount to share between 500+ victims.

They won their case but still received very little. This is is also so wrong.

The extortionate cost of justice needs to be looked at as well. It is now outside the pocket of the man in the street. Every time there is a case vs 'the crown' which is a regular occurance, it is the muggins taxpayer who has to pay forit, so this affects everybody. Yet ordinary people  can't afford justice for themselves when they need it.

Without him the campaign would not have got the support in parliament it eventually received.  Of course the campaign has been a success.

Exactly  ...........    Until this happens,  justice will never be seen to be done.
