Does anyone know when Manvers Way (A633 which becomes the A6023), the Wath bypass, was opened ?

Hello Chekhov and Happy New Year.

2007.

I thought it was earlier.

I can remember driving through Mexborough town centre, I think that was bi-passed 1970's.

It's flyover demolished  2022.

Thanks RR,

Was the whole road opened at the same time ?

I remember going to Wath in the 1970s to see the electric class 76 locos at the marshalling yard, and it was cheap bus fares  to get there !

Happy days.

Basically yes.

I think the railways went with the closure of the pits, the canal before that in the 60's.

Spent many hours up the pit stacks 🏍️ before they landscaped the place

Old moor RSPB was opened in 1998 the previous 20 years were taken up with removing slag heaps and toxic soil .

As there is access to the reserve I assume the road was built in the mid  1990s

Thank you Thorpist, I'll stand corrected (but don't let it happen again 😀)

In my defence I did say 'I thought it was earlier than 2007 .

2002 A-Z has the road in it.

Not there in early 1990's.

You'd think an internet search would bring something up other than bus timetable schedules and a potted history of Wath.

I too am surprised one cannot find it on the internet, I have looked more than once. Thus proving, BTW, that not all information is on the internet, or if it is it is so hard to find it may as well not be on there at all !

I think, partly from memory and partly from my old maps, that the A6195 up to Cathill roundabout was opened before 1996, but Manvers Way (A633 which becomes the A6023) Wath bypass was not open (or even being built as I remember it) by Feb 2000, as I recall wistfully walking the route of the ex railway line then (upon which the road has now been built).
