I shopped in Wilkinson's quite regularly. The old dears on the tills were very friendly but the closure of many manned tills in favour of card only self service tills caused long queues. They won't have done themselves any favours there. If you look at successful stores such as One Below, they all have manned tills ✓ and all take cash ✓. They also offer a far wider range than Wilkinson's, for example Wilkinson's didn't do mixed disposable cutlery, where as One Below did. The main problem for Wilkinson's seemed to stem from administrative decisions/investments etc anyway.
HeHasRisen
Are you really, seriously saying that Wilko failed because they brought in self service checkouts? 😂😂

It failed because the accounting team made bad decisions with shareholders etc, they were millions of GBP in debt and that blame cannot be attributed to the customer.

Only a psychopath would go to a self service checkout with a trolley, unless it was just a couple of bulky items or one where you scan it all yourself as you go round. 2
