Why do you want to live in a diversity society?   Rule Britannia!

As society is diverse he,  along with the rest of us,  has no choice.

You also don't realise Mr Garnett,  that you could become  a slave much sooner and easier than you think.

This is a stupid story. The man is ignorant of history and facts - what's he complaining about when:

a) The song itself has the lyric "Britons never shall be slaves" ergo its not about American southern slaves specifically or their lives, its a wish/declaration used in the general sense of the word slave - the song itself harks back to the glorious British Empire, and anyway it was Great Britain who first took steps against the slave trade way back in the early 19th century.

b) I assume that this chap is British-born and therefore, down the generations, he will have absolutely no connection to the American slave trade generation even if the song was about that

c) It's a stalwart song of a trio or more of songs that form the core set of the Last Night of the Proms, therefore if it is removed a major pillar of the whole program is gone, whats next, Jerusalem cos of some anti-semite idiot?

Nonetheless I fear that at some point in the future, the miserable Woke politically correct BBC that is way over-funded by and does not deserve any part of the licence fees from us silent majority, and allows overpaid idiots like Linaker and Vorderman to rant as they wish on social media in clear breach of their impartiality contracts,

will roll over on its miserable Woke belly, legs in the air, probably bent at the knees at the same time, to remove these glorious patriotic standard songs just because some sensitive snowflake musicians disagree out of pure ignorance of history with them 🤨🙄

It'll only take some 16 year old Muslim schoolgirl to complain that these songs make her feel threatened or excluded for them to be dropped like hot bricks. Then they'll be replaced by more inclusive songs that reflect our diverse society such as 'Here Comes the Sunni' by the Bhangra Beatles, 'Summer Halaliday', 'Honour Killing Me Softly' and 'Midnight in Mosqueow'.

He is entitled to his opinion and without doubt the song will be removed in the near future just to keep the peace. The noisy minority always get their way eventually as the majority just can't be bothered with the hassle of it all, more important things to worry about.

Entitled to his opinion  -  Quite correct.

Will be removed in the near future ?   -   I'm quite sure it won't be removed at all.   I've never seen a noisy minority get their way as you suggest.

More important things to worry about ?  -  Quite correct again,  just like your first comment.

So you got 2 out of 3 right,  and the third won't happen anyway..

Music and the playing / listening involved is an age old thing and the  Orchestral / Traditional  music world in general is very slow to change.

The conductors are extremely unlikely to be swayed by the opinion of one musician.    More likely to give him the chair with one leg short which wobbles.

Just a storm in a teacup which is designed to get some of the  rabid's  we find on here, into their usual spluttering fits.    Don't think you can start messing about with old blighty squire.
