You just can't help yourself can you.

It's a waste of time even attempting to have a grown up conversation with you.

I will bow out.

You may as well if you cannot understand that many people in the services never see the front line.    Bundy has always bowed out upon losing the debate.

When a pilot (  possibly a woman )  takes a jet fighter our to active combat,  it takes a team of almost 30 personnel to maintain that aircraft.

That shows how stupid your argument is  -  war isn't the game you played as a little kid.

I don't doubt that, just questioning that it's maybe time for 50/50.

We could see more women being called up if conscription came into force. I can't ever see it being 50/50 tho. Unless we send pregnant women and nursing mothers to the battlefield.

The way forward is to bring back the Army,  Royal Navy and Royal Air Force recruiting centres that used to be located in shopping areas like the high street.   Also serving military should do talks in schools to help with the recruiting process.

Conscript all male illegal immigrants into the army and send them off to Catterick ,Aldershot or wherever under the care of Sergeant Majors.

Only joking but it might solve a couple of problems.

The recruiting centres that I remember played heavily on the opportunity to travel, learn a trade ,enjoy sport during times of relative peace and were attractive to some for those reasons more than the thought of being a fighting man.

The world has changed considerably and the reality of war is now graphically reported in the media.

Not so attractive.

They closed them to save money.           As a good Tory ?    are you saying they did the wrong thing ?              Do you want to save money or not.

What we really ought to do is fill the military ranks with all those who want to keep going to war,  including MP's and ministers.

You'll finish up with a skeleton army then.

Prisons would be full with 'scrimshanks' and 'barrack room lawyers' avoiding their conscription.  I'm not sure whether or not it is a generational thing, or if our country has evolved into one that has a problem recruiting and retaining uniformed personnel?  It certainly seems so in the police these days.

There are millions upon millions of people in this country who have little or no loyalty to Britain and a fair number who are actively hostile to it. The idea you could just conscript them and send them off to war without mass violence and insurrection is laughable. That's mostly people of immigrant stock who have their first loyalty to other countries, but not just them. How's it going to go trying to conscript Celtic's "green brigade" into the British army? Or scousers who can't abide the national anthem?

In the world of equality, we can't be seen to treat men and women differently or indeed to acknowledge any difference between them. So we'd be conscripting young men and women on an equal basis. Even amongst the general population who do have a loyalty to Britain, do you think people would just stand back and watch young mothers and daughters conscripted off to war?

We've got a whole generation , probably 2 or 3 generations who've been brought up in a culture where hurty words are considered as bad if not worse than actual violence, who've never faced any kind of discipline and who very much "know their rights". They've also been brought up on to believe that Britain and it's history and culture is something to be ashamed of. The idea you could shape them into some sort of fighting force to take the fight to Russia across to protect their country seems delusional.

The whole idea is laughable.

Conscription could simply never work in modern Britain in any conceivable circumstances. I'm sure in a war that posed a genuine threat to the continuity of the nation there'd still be plenty of volunteers, mainly the kind of folk who are ridiculed as " Gammon" but any attempt at conscription would result in mass rebellion, the downfall of the government and hasten the victory of whichever enemy they'd managed to conjure up.
