Much as DSA would be marginally more convenient there remain 3 more realistic alternatives within 90 minutes max. the fact that Peel had the council’s pants down from the start ( as with Sheffield City) only goes to prove that most councillor’s and a large proportion of their advisors here have little nous between them . South Yorkshire has a strong (and growing !) reputation for high value manufacturing/engineering. An active airport would make an excellent hub for relevant businesses/activity. And that's the main point. The feasibility study has been done and apparently shown a strong economic case based on our focus in the region for things like advance manufacturing. Personally I agree with others, this is a vanity project, the people in charge are not competent enough to manage the project, whatever feasibility studies they have done will turn out to be drastically flawed and very poorly executed, and the entire thing will fall apart, costing us the tax payer alot of money. It will end as a millstone around the neck of South Yorkshire, and the morons that put it there will swan off to another job, accepting zero blame. Businessmen don't want one return flight to Amsterdam shoved at the end of the day, or the start of the day, which is likely what DSA will get. They want an airport which has multiple return trips a day for convenience. An Amsterdam flight from DSA at 10pm to Amsterdam that doesn't return until 9pm the next day isn't convenient in the slightest. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They won't need the runway, but at the same time they're big and can't get in the way of the runway so need to be somewhere separate. If they're floating while moored, also don't want them anywhere near the planes as the wash from the engines could blow them about. As they're applying for planning on their own site, they might not want to pay additional fees to operate out of DSA when their own base is so close.
