Never said I was providing evidence. neither have you. There are 11 tunnels more than 8 miles in length. 9 of them built in this 21st century. If people the world over are happy to pay the cost, live with the delay ( which you claim ), live with the danger ( which you claim ), then they seem like a good idea to everyone except you.
