Olbas Oil maybe?

Thanks but I'm sure it was Vicks Vapour Rub. I think what's causing confusion is Cressida's description of more modern packaging on the bottle. My memory of it goes back quite some time. ;)

It’s worth trying Tiger Balm as an alternative. While Vicks VapoRub contains 8.6% of its active ingredients but Tiger Balm has  60%.

Camphor is also excellent. It has decongestive properties and decreases inflammation in the lungs and throat. It also reduces nasal congestion and is a cough suppressant

I've had a deep throaty, sometimes painful, persistent cough for six weeks now.

It's not nice.

I contacted the Doctor 3 weeks ago and he said it would go after a month.

It's actually getting worse.

No meds are helping, I'm just letting it take it's course.

I hope it's not the 'hundred day' one.

If you've had it for six weeks and it's getting worse I'd be inclined to see the Doctor again!

In addition to my other comment, you say that you "contacted" your Doctor. Does that mean it was a telephone appointment? If so you really need need to get your chest listened to with a stephoscope to see if you have an infection etc.
