I’ll take the liberty of replying on behalf of my late father in law who was ex WW11 Royal Navy/ Sheffield Fire Service.

If you can’t take the dangerous side of the job, best get another one.

Back in the day employers wouldn’t get sued if they allowed their employees to put themselves in danger and harm came to them.

The members of the public that chose to help the numpty that drove into 4ft of water did so at their own risk and choice.  The fireman on scene might also have got into trouble with his employer for not following procedures.

This has got nothing to do with bravery.  Although I agree it’s a ridiculous situation and don’t agree with it.

We pride ourselves on the abilities of our great and good, we also pick up the pieces left by what you look at as ‘numpty’s’, this is how it should be. 🤙

As I mentioned above, it seems that it's not uncommon at that location, and the fire service clearly have a tried and tested procedure in place, both for there and other similar situations.

Hey we all make mistakes sometimes.  Apparently the guy that drove into 4ft of water was a driving instructor though.  So whilst an inexperienced or poorly skilled driver might make that mistake, a driving instructor really ought to know better because surely they are what you might term one of the great and good in teaching people the skills to drive competently and safely.  I’m not saying he shouldn’t have been rescued, of course he should, but was certainly a numpty.

I’m sure they do.  I was more making the point that this isn’t about the firemen lacking bravery which was what was being suggested.

Couple rescue trapped driving instructor from 4ft of floodwater while emergency crews STAND BY - because they are 'only allowed to go in waist-high'

A couple was forced to rescue a trapped driving instructor from 4ft of floodwater while firefighters stood by because they were 'only allowed to go in waist-high'.

Filmmaker Jamie Price and his partner Danielle waded into the deep water because the motorist 'looked like he was drowning' when they arrived at the scene in Ingatestone, Essex, yesterday.

Two Essex fire and rescue crews, an ambulance and a police car were parked near the stricken vehicle, but Mr Price said he was shocked to see the emergency services were not doing more to help.

He told MailOnline: 'I noticed the driver was still in there and I thought, "Why is there a fireman standing beside him on the radio leaning up against the fence?"

'I'm thinking, "Why are they telling him to stay there, why are they not helping him?" So I asked him and that's when they said they were waiting for other crews to come because they're only wader trained, and it's too high for them for their training and what they're allowed to do.'

Mr Price said that they feared the specialised crews would not arrive in time because they were coming from Colchester, which is why they decided to take action themselves.
