I can’t see it revitalising the city centre, or who it’s potential clients will be, but having said that I wish it well. 🤙

I think it looks tremendous.  I'm gonna book a night in a room overlooking Peace Gardens and have a weekend pretending to be a tourist in Sheffield.

We've done that a couple of times when we've been to the Crucible at the weekend & stayed at The Mercure.  It's a very weird feeling to leave home on a Friday afternoon & not come back until Sunday morning & feel like a tourist in your own city.

At least we didn't have to ask where we were going.

Sheffield Radisson Blu hotel plans take shape as more details emerge - YorkshireLive (examinerlive.co.uk)

The buildings on Pinstone Street are looking fantastic. Despite what people like to bleat about on here, we do need more and better hotels in our city centre, and this is a great addition. It will also come with a couple of new restaurant units facing Pinstone Street to.

At least now we know the real reason Pinstone Street was kept closed, Radisson greased the right plams....

Sheffield City Centre’s flagship Radisson Blu hotel, which boasts 154 rooms and a rooftop bar and restaurant, is due to open this Summer with booking available next week.

Rooms at Sheffield’s new upper mid-scale Radisson Blu hotel, which is located between Burgess Street and Pinstone Street, will be available to book from the week commencing 25 March, with an open date set for 10 June 2024

The global brand – renowned for its unparalleled service, comfort, and style – will open as part of Sheffield City Council and Strategic Development Partner, Queensberry’s, Heart of the City scheme.

With its rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking the Peace Gardens, the latest conference facilities and flexible event space, the new Radisson Blu will be the premier destination to stay within the city and seen as a key driver in helping to attract new commercial opportunities to the city centre,

With plans to accommodate visitors with high-end facilities for both work and relaxation, the hotel is housed behind the sympathetically refurbished Victorian façade along Pinstone Street – once home to the Palatine Chambers and City Mews.

Cllr Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council, said:

“We are very excited that work on our new Radisson Blu hotel is nearing completion. The view from the rooftop restaurant, overlooking the Peace Gardens, is a unique addition to the city centre and we can’t wait for the hotel’s guests and city centre visitors to enjoy it for themselves in June.

“Radisson Blu is a leading brand in the hospitality sector and one we had long hoped to bring to Sheffield. The hotel epitomises everything that is being achieved with Heart of the City and the high-quality benchmark we are setting. The hotel is in a phenomenal location to succeed, seconds away from world-class public realm in the Peace Gardens and Pound’s Park, market leading office buildings, and Europe’s largest purpose-built food hall. All of this will help us as we continue to drive forward our economy and really see Sheffield on the up.”

Andrew Davison, Project Director, Queensberry:

"This has been 5 years of hard work, and we are so proud to finally announce the opening date to the public. This hotel will set a new benchmark in quality accommodation and style, becoming the No.1 destination within the city for any event whether it’s a conference, celebrational event or just an overnight stay. Radisson Hotel Group is a leading brand and operator of hotels and having this International and well renowned brand over the door, demonstrates the strength and attraction of Sheffield.

Valerie Donaldson, General Manager of Radisson Blu Sheffield says:

“Sheffield is undergoing significant investment right now, and we are thrilled to be a part of the transformation of the city. We’re looking forward to working with Queensbury, Turner & Townsend, and Sheffield City Council to make this hotel come alive. We can’t wait to bring the Radisson Blu brand to Sheffield and create a place within the city where people want to come and eat, drink, stay and just have a really good time.”

If I'd seen this photo out of context I would not have recognised it as Sheffield! :o
