It's 80 here in France (well 130kmph) apart from round towns / cities where there are a number of junctions close together, then it's 60 as a rule although occasionally 50. The 80 limit is relatively strictly enforced by cameras - leeway a max of 5%. Motorways here are a lot less crowded than the UK except round major cities or during weekends in the holiday season (mid Jul - late August. There aren't many modern cars that aren't capable of travelling (and stopping) 'safely' at well above our current speed limits.
