I am referring to the numerous bunches of flowers etc. left at various favourite places ,benches, roadsides ,lamp posts etc. to commemorate someone.

I am not very keen on them as basically they turn to litter within days.

Plaques on benches etc I can appreciate and can be interesting and permanent and frequently provide a useful bench paid for by the donor.

Its no big deal, but not a custom that I am keen on.

I love them - I always treat my wife to a bunch of flowers (& occasionally a small teddy) every time a new one appears

Bigger than my house.

Don't worry. I'm sure the council will demolish it in the near future.

I read that they didn't have permission to build it that big though, so I guess the council would be within their rights to have it down.

Dunno, maybe they were not aware of it being erected.

The cemetery workers must have seen the cement mixers delivering to the site along with  Diggers that were there, My self and other family members actually spoke to some of the relatives who were laying the cement / concrete.
