Unfortunately most shops now have specialists who rummage through stuff before it goes out for sale. Sometimes a gem will get overlooked and be put on sale but that rarely happens anymore. I’m awaiting delivery of a rechargeable single ear one that cost £11.09, I’m not expecting miracles. Fair point Crooksey, let me know if their any good. I thought it was worth mentioning the second hand hearing aid though as people might not realise they could pick up a bargain for very little money.

Does the second hand one fit OK, as they are usually designed by making a mould to fit your ear.

I didn’t buy it as fortunately I don’t need one. I do know an old lady who used her husband’s hearing aid after he passed on and she said it worked perfectly and waste not, want not!! I’ve also known people get second hand spectacles in charity shops and they have been fine. A lot of money can saved buying second hand. Better for the environment too. The modern ones have a small 'bud' that fits down in the ear. Virtually invisible.

The trouble is that peoples hearing usually only falters on one frequency band so someone else's ex hearing aid may well not be programmed to your ear.

I’ve known people use second hand hearing aids with no trouble at all. I suppose it might not work for someone with very poor hearing but most I don’t believe it’s a problem. The one I have got nhs one is made from a mould and is not a small bud, when I enquired about the small bud type, they said it depended on type of hearing loss you had.
