Thankou for that. Good to know.

But how do I get to Eldon Street?

Eldon Street and the car park there (where shopmobility are based) are entered from West Street.

Google Maps is always a good choice (and tends to be up-to-date) to find directions from where you’re coming from. 👍

As a single disabled person who can't walk far and relies on a car to get around, how can I get to enjoy Sheffield city centre? Not a complaint, but just wondering whether provision for people like me has been given any consideration?

A mobility scooter is not viable as I wouldn't be able to get it in and out of a car boot by myself.

Any ideas?

You can call Veezu (City Taxis) and request an accessible taxi. Most drivers will help you in and out and deploy the ramp for you.

All buses in Sheffield are fully accessible and Millennium Galleries, Winter Gardens and The Light Cinema are all fully wheelchair accessible. Alternatively, you may prefer to drive and use the car park on Eyre Street, adjacent to The Moor. It's only a short walk to the cinema & shops from there.

Thankyou all for your helpful replies, very useful information which I shall apply.

Would it be a good idea if all car parks on the edge of the city centre provided a range of helpful transport from bicycles to disability scooters? (Could be kept in a pop up. or a lockup shipping container.)

A deposit would have to be paid of course, and a way of keeping tabs on them, so they don't go the way of the yellow bicycles often to be found up trees...

Anna, you may be entitled to an English National Concessionary Travel Scheme card because of your disability. Full information on how to apply is available on the link. The card would allow you complimentary travel on any local bus, tram or Northern* train in South Yorkshire at any time. You may also be issued one with a +C logo which would allow a carer to travel with you in South Yorkshire*. The ENCTS card can also be used on local buses anywhere in the country between 09:30-23:00 Monday-Friday and at any time on weekends. It may be useful to you for exploring Sheffield city centre as you would be able to use bus services to get between venues (all wheelchair accessible).

I saw a folding wheelchair outside a second hand shop on Abbeydale Rd if that’s useful.  Only £10.

The ENCTS pass also enables the holder to travel from Sheffield  by train or bus throughout Derbyshire for £7.70 a day after 9.00 M-F.

The Derbyshire Wayfarer can also be used in conjunction with single or return(including Advanced) to travel beyond the boundary stations like Ilkeston. Burton and Long Eaton with the bonus that the train does not need to stop at those stations.

Senior Railcards no longer entitle the holder to the discounted Derbyshire Wayfarer fare.

The Derbyshire Wayfarer is an excellent ticket. It can also be used to Long Eaton, Tutbury & Hatton and can be used around Derby on the buses. Subsidy of such a ticket in Sheffield would be better use of public funds than the Sheffield Connect scheme.
