Is The Pope Correct?

The Pope has not suggested giving Russia the whole of Europe.  I do not want to see the UK waste anymore money by supporting Ukraine in a war they cannot possibly win.

Makes no difference what The Pope says.   He will have no input on whatever is decided.

Russia will not accept what The Pope or anyone else suggests  -  they will take what they want and Putin will not have the slightest interest in what The Pope,  or anyone else,  thinks.

What does Russia need on a day to day basis that they import from the West that could be denied them if they continue the war with Ukraine?

Just a thought guys.

Interaction with the rest of the world,  including banking,  and to sell their oil and gas to Europe which they do at this time but will not always.

All wars end round a conference table.

Surely that's where issues, disagreements etc. should be decided. The battlefield is an unnecessary throwback.

The issues are rarely simply black or white.

In most cases there are two sides to the story, and any news regarding it is usually biased. As bystanders, we don't know the whole story or really understand the issues.

That has been woefully demonstrated in both Ukraine and Gaza.

We are rarely in a position to properly judge.

War is hell, particularly for the ordinary people.

We now have power to annihilate the entire  world.at the push of a button, or cripple entire populations with the vilest weapons. It's also prohibitively expensive to cause all this suffering, but we always seem to have money for it...

IMO It should be avoided at all costs.

Quite correct Anna but,  after wars are already in commission,  and one side is much more powerful than the other,   it's difficult to do anything but fight or surrender.

Politicians should think things through better before the wars start.

The middle east is easy  -  we set it all in motion 70 odd years ago when we gave away someone else's land.

In a similar way to the Irish problem which we took over at gunpoint many years ago.

Will we never behave ?

The topic is about what the Pope said.  About 20% of Ukraine are Catholic.  There are similarities between the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church.  The Pope should have influence in Ukraine.

I know full well what the topic is and I know that there are many Catholics in that area BUT    do you really think that Putin is a committed Catholic who will ever be swayed by anything The Pope says.

It's Putin you have got to satisfy and not the Catholics in the area.

Putin would like to get out of the mess he has created for himself and his country.  He did not expect to be at War with Ukraine two years after he started the invasion.  The Pope has done the right thing by his comments,

My bold:  Which would that Ukraine took the correct course of action then,  which goes against what you previously said.

He could do that easily by withdrawing his forces. He doesn't care how many Russians die due to the mess he's created - only to save face.

The head of the Catholic church in Ukraine has condemned the Popes comment.
