Simple. And the cycle lanes shouldn't infringe on our pavement space, of which we have so little.

So why not demand more pavement space from car users, who have so much of the carriageway and far more infrastructure than cyclists, or even pedestrians? 1 Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop

Of the 548, 6 were killed by cyclists. In any case aren’t you far more likely to be killed if hit by a vehicle as opposed to a pedal cycle? I would have thought so. echo. Nationally, until recent changes started to allow councils to apply for enforcement powers (apparently a drawn out process) it was only illegal to park on pavements within the city of London. Cycle lanes, if marked out with dashed lines and not a solid one are perfectly legal to be parked in.

Central government are allowing councils in England to enforce moving traffic offences like box junctions and banned turns, but pavement parking is not included. The Local Government Association, which represents local authorities has recently called for pavement parking powers to be rolled out to councils in England. See this article. The government have talked about doing it for years but so far haven’t taken any action.
