Jomie
‘The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God’ is a series of podcasts by Justin Brierley. It is very interesting and thought provoking. It sheds a bright light on the history of our Christian heritage but doesn’t gloss everything over. Listening to these podcasts has broadened my understanding of Christianity and history. Despite the historical shortcomings of Christianity, after listening to the podcasts my impression is that we need to embrace and defend our Christian heritage. The fact that people of all different faiths come to the UK and are able to practise freely shows acceptance and tolerance which (as they argue in the podcasts) is underpinned by our Christian culture. That’s not the case in some countries where Christians are persecuted and churches destroyed. One interviewee describes the destruction of a church in the Middle East by radical Islamists. That particular episode was upsetting but there was no condemnation of Islam. Would recommend these podcasts for enquiring minds of whatever faith. 1
