What Really Takes You Back In Time (In A Good Way)

Recommended Posts

I had just left school(1958) and got a holiday job before starting tech.

I went into the office to report for  work (dogs body)and there was the most gorgeous girl typing away.

A couple of  weeks later the office cleaner asked me if would like a date with that girl.

Yes Yes Yes,

We were together until she passed away a year ago.

Her dress reminds me of that meeting and I have it in the wardrobe

I'm glad you had a long and happy marriage, and I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing. 💜

When my friends came for tea my mother always made everyone egg and chips,  my son has just made me double egg and

chips,  with a slice of bread and butter,  and ketchup,  it was a real treat.

Lovely.

Does anyone not love egg and chips with bread and butter?

Let you into a secret Al,  they were Tesco's own,  slightly chunky - and no pointy ones.

Just heard Tony Blackburn play The Toys - 'A Lover's Concerto'.

Took me back to summery days at Mulehouse Road when I was nowt but a snotnose.

My in-laws bought their first house on Mulehouse Road just after getting married in 1970.

It was a terrace and cost about £2K!

I also had a great aunt and uncle who lived on Stannington View Road and regularly used to visit them in the ‘40s and ‘50s as a child.

echo.

My old stomping ground. It was the first house my folks bought. Clueless as to how much it cost. I played on the field that was next to Crookes WMC before they sold it off for housing. The Bole Hills too was a favourite. They moved up to Crookes from Canny Street on Attercliffe about a year before I was born.

Remember well walking to Lydgate school through the cemetery in the dark of winter being a fraction more than scared stiff!

When I was 11 they moved just across to the other side of the cemetery to the top of Delph-house Road. That home cost them the princely sum of £1,100. I don't think you can buy a wheely-bin for that money in Crosspool nowadays.
