Part of me laughed when he complained that it "smelt bad"!

God he ought to take a walk around Sheffield, or indeed many places in this country to realise how some people have degenerated.

But then he said

"You walk everywhere around the Crucible and it smells really bad. As a player I’m honest, it’s just really bad. Everything’s so bad. You go to other venues in other countries and you see how nice they treat you. How nice everything is. Everything is shiny."

Everywhere is shiny, really? I think he should grow up and get into the real world. As far as I know he's not a millionaire yet.

Some of these players may actually have valid points, if forum members turn the Sheffield blinkers off.

Its an old venue, and its also a relatively tiny venue which is hosting the largest event on the circuit. It can only trade off its history for so long.

I must admit when I read about O'sullivan basically complaining about having to pass through a few fans, yes fans, (the people that put you on that pedestal you're now looking down on them from), the food & facilities, all I can think is bless his little prissy heart.  Anyway, I thought the players had their own nutritionists as part of the background team.  Tell O'sullivan to bring his own sarnies.  As for the other bloke moaning; who he?

I never heard the likes of Steve Davies complain when he used to walk through the city centre streets from his hotel.  I never saw Willie Thorn complaining when I saw him in the bookies on Fitzalan Square & people wanted to chat to him about snooker & Eddy Charlton was always happy to shoot the breeze with people in Nether Edge, when he used to live in the Fountside apartments during the tournament.

Anyway, its clear that there a bit of momentum amongst the players here to complain & moan enough so that the Crucible contract isn't renewed beyond 2027.   Let them go elsewhere.

I know it was mooted that a new larger facility could be built somewhere in tbe city centre.  I'm not sure what the seating capacity would have to be to satisfy the snooker organisation but there's no guarantees that they would actually stay in the city so I wouldn't build such a facility on the off chance.

If it's size they are after, move the wholeot to the Arena.   At the end of the day I'd just call it a day & let them move the snooker circus on.

Some of the theatre productions coming out of the Crucible are getting more positive publicity for the city than the snooker.

May be it's time we said thanks Mr Hearn for everything but we are moving on now. We hope you will all enjoy China.

Give us an opportunity of promoting Sheffield as the 'Home of the Beautiful Game'.

It's a much larger world wide audience.

Correct.  Sheffield Theatres are regularly voted the best outside London & internationally stage successes have started their lives at the Crucible.

But back to snooker.  Reading certain reports it doesn't appear to be Barry Hearn that's wanting to leave Sheffield, although he's continually pushing for the city to build a larger venue suitable for snooker.

What you have now is clearly player power starting to push the agenda, influenced by money outside the control of the likes of Hearn from places like Saudi Arabia & China.  You've also got players with their own agenda, such as O'sullivan who recently signed a lucrative 3 year deal with the Saudis to take on a sports ambassador role.  There's the main reason that O'Sullivan now having a moan.  He's getting paid to be a Saudi mouthpiece & he's not going to bite the hand that's feeding him.

It would be ironic if snooker did go to China on the back of moaners Hossein Vafaei, because at certain times of the year, the pollution is so bad people can barely breathe, and visibility is massively reduced.

Oh well, at least it doesn't smell.
