Labour and material costs are at an all time high, this is why social housing building by councils and housing associations is grinding to a halt again, it's unaffordable.

Buy them at auction, do them up, and add them to their portfolio of council properties, then collect reasonable rents. It would also spread diversity and stop big council estates becoming ghetoes of working class inhabitants.. Private Landlords do it all the time, building up enormous portfolioes. Why not the council? They do, they council does buy properties back that have previously been sold via right to buy, and are buying other properties as well taking properties on long leases from private sector landlords. It doesnt jump up and down about it though. Perhaps it should publicise these types of things more.

None of the people listed with those salaries are councillors and no councillor is earning anywhere near £100k from their councillor role. 3 Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop

The Lush shop on Fargate being a recent well-known example — the council set a limit of £500,000 for it and it went for £501,000. Someone ought to tell the council to always set their limits at 10% over the nearest round figure as it's well known that many bidders set their limit and drop out on the rounded numbers. (eg £500,000) as in this case. It's a good tactic that will aquire them more properties in the future.

Are you going to magically pull the money out of your backside to cover the cost of that 10% extra? They are working to a budget. They're not plucking some figure out of thin air.

Just how much in your world do you think they should be paid then? Within the council there are pen pushers and administrators earning high £20,000s. There are business support officers and analysts and even security guards earning mid-high £30,000s. There are HR advisors and project managers earning almost £50,000. So therefore, is it really that 'outrageous' for an executive of an entire division to be expecting a salary £100k plus? Hardly.
