Don’t some of these takeaways use the fat from the doner meat for frying the fish and chips? So it all tastes like doner kebab.

I don’t think anyone does this, maybe they fry something else in the same oil that leaves a taste in the oil?

There isn't that much fat coming off the doner meat, certainly no-where near enough to warrant collecting it and putting it in with the chips.  Taste is probably from some places changing the oil less regularly, probably due to the costs.

The price of oil has skyrocketed ever since the Russians started their war.  Ukraine was a huge producer of sunflower oil, so global supply has really taken a hit, pushing prices way up.

Indeed geared. And there are cases of businesses who store their veg oil or whatever they use outside and it being stolen.

Well I have heard that a lot of takeaways re-use their oil several times to save costs so that could be it.

All places do it including McDonald’s so maybe some places need to improve their filtration system=
